Epic Failure - Awesome Adventure.

Yesterday's Free Cone Day was not, what one would call "Successful".

The night before, I looked up all of the locations, and that morning Dana made this awesome map...

BTW I LOVE the cupcake markers!!! Anyway. When I was in the shower she and Lizzie were programming the addresses into their GPS's and I THOUGHT they were calling... Whatever...

Anyway we get to the first location and it was a house in the middle of a residential neighborhood. We were so disappointed! We triple checked the address in the GPS and we called information. We were AT the right address. It was just clearly not a Ben and Jerry's. I was mad, not at the home owners, but at google. Dana suggested that maybe they just had a HUGE stock pile of ice cream in their freezer. This seemed plausible to me, so I decided to knock on their door.

I brought all of my maps, and print outs with me, because I wanted to show them that I had PROOF that this address was supposed to provide me with free ice cream. I also wanted to offer them some sort of explanation as to WHY there would be several lunatics like me driving by and stopping in front of their house all day. Linda's called me a "Ice Cream Jehovah's Witness." She might be right. I did feel like I had a calling...

Unfortunately nobody answered the door. So I walked back to the car even more frustrated by the situation. So I wrote them a note...

Please excuse my handwriting. I know it looks like it was written by the Zodiac Killer. I was upset, and I feel like the "mental patient" like aspects of it, lends to the severity of the situation and really illustrates my frustration. It's a good thing I didn't have any magazines or glue sticks otherwise I would have crossed the thresh hold from "Frantic Mentally disturbed person" to full blown "Inside the mind of the crafty serial killer."

Probably best I didn't because I then hung the note on their front door...

We then drove to our second location only to be DENIED!!!
I looks like this shop had just closed down a few weeks ago. SO DEPRESSING!!!!
What is happening to all the Ben and Jerry's Scoop shops on Long Island?
We went to lunch at American Roadside Burgers and regrouped.
We called all the locations on our map and only ONE number was in service.
We debated, ditching Long Island and instead going to Brooklyn/Queens, Westchester or CT.
No options seemed really appealing, and Lizzie HAD to get back to Brooklyn by nine..
So we decided to go to the next stop on our map (that we knew was open) and then figure out what we wanted to do.

Huntington, we knew the scoop shop was open, and we KNEW exactly where it was because the restaurant we went to with Brontis this weekend was RIGHT next door. Lizzie and I talked about how we should go on more "Group" dates in Huntington because it's looked like it had a lot of cute places to eat AND it's kind of halfway between us.

Ben and Jerry's in Huntington was a success. We rocked out Peanut Brittle (awesome), Peanut Butter Cookie Dough (eh, just okay), Mint Chocolate Chunk (Decent) and Half Baked (safe pick by Dana). We got lots of cute pictures and a MUCH needed morale boost.

After we had our Ice Cream, Lizzie turned on her southern charm and called the Ben and Jerry's headquarters in Vermont. Our customer service rep Eloise told us that there were only TWO SCOOP SHOPS LEFT ON ALL OF LONG ISLAND! What is happening? That seems WRONG!

We were crushed, but we made the commitment to drive to the last Ben and Jerry's (not on our Map) in West Hampton Beach to make sure we hit every REMAINING Ben and Jerry's on Long Island. We were women with a mission.

The second Ben and Jerry's wound up just being a satellite shop in a candy store. Their selection was limited which was kind of a bummer. We wound up picking Phish Food, Triple Caramel Chunk, Oatmeal Cookie Chunk and Seven Layer Coconut (which was disgusting. I tasted like eating fingernails.)

All in all we drove over 100 miles for eight scoops of ice cream.
FAIL!
But I did get to spend the day with my favorite ladies. I had a good time driving around Long Island, talking and laughing with them all day. Everyone was in good spirits so, in that sense the day was a total win.

I'm going to post a bunch of pictures from the day, but I'll put them behind a cut so I don't totally clog your friends page...

Dana, Lily and I at Lunch. Lily is upset she couldn't spill my chocolate covered cherry soda on her head.

Lizzie = AWESOME!

Success in Huntington!!!

We are like Lewis and Clark, and Clark...and Lewis.

"I'll humor you, and let you feed me.... for now!"

"It's not a party until someone starts doing the Ice Cream Dance."

Two spoons. Very efficient. I have so much to learn from her.

Look at that level of skill!!!

Lily takes her spoons on the road with her. Knowing she will need them at our next location.

Lily didn't want to leave Ben and Jerry's. She tried hiding.

I'm sorry it didn't work out as well as you hoped but Lily seems like she enjoyed it :)

She did, we all had a good time... It's just sad that Ben and Jerry's is going the way of the dinosaur.

I really, really hope not but it could definitely be the economy. A TON of restaurants have closed down here in my town over the past 1.5 years and they were the first businesses that I noticed being effected by the economy. Places that were always crowded closed down out of the blue. It was totally weird and a lot of them still haven't reopened as anything new yet. I'm sure B&J is still making bank off their supermarket ice cream so at least you know that will never go away. Hell, Chris is practically sending their grandkids to college buying Creme Brulee pints every time we go shopping like it's going out of style.

I have read a couple of books about their corporate model and philosophy and they are one of the companies that has my undying loyalty not just based on their product but also their politics... they carved their niche by working outside of the system you know?

It's sad to see them fall victim to the current economic climate.

I'll have you know that once you clued me into the creme brulee ice cream, It was all over for me. I love that stuff, but I can't have it. Fatty eats a pint at a time.

When I first skimmed through your post, I thought the aforementioned text was what you wrote on the note..
